Integration of Jatropha curcas into the anti-erosion activities in Madagascar
Intégration du Jatropha dans les activités de lutte contre l'érosion au Madagascar

The mission was very successful and filled a missing technological link. It introduced the Bielenberg hand press (ram press, see: The Bielenberg Ram Press). This press will now be produced in Madagascar.

In Madagascar, another Jatropha species is endemic: Jatropha mahalafiensis. It grows in large quantities in the south of the island on chalky soil.

The population uses it like J. curcas: for hedges and as a medicinal plant.

The mission organised a workshop on production and use of Jatropha oil. It took place the 21st of november in Marovoay, near Mahajanga, in the north west of the country.
